Teaching as an extension of composition

For Giovanni, teaching and composing are not separate vocations — they are the same act of listening carefully and responding honestly. Every student brings a different musical self into the room, and the work is to help that self become more fully realized.

With faculty experience at Pepperdine University and a performing career that has taken him to Carnegie Hall and beyond, Giovanni brings rare dual perspective to his teaching: the academic rigor of institutional training and the practical wisdom of a working artist navigating the real music world.

Lessons are never one-size-fits-all. The student who wants to understand counterpoint deeply will work differently than the one preparing a Sor étude for their first recital. Both are worthy goals. Both will be met where they are.

"Able to encapsulate tiny, winsome worlds as if passing through a gallery of paintings."
